What's with the Name?
Born on February 18, 1983! My mission in life was to be the king of all game genres. After studying all of Captain N's moves as a child, I then beat his best scores and eventually surpassed him in every way. By the time I hit high school there was no game I couldn't master. By college I had a new nickname given to me by my peers and meant as an insult. They called me (dramatic music and lightning) Kwing "The Real Game Master." When I got married on June 3, 2006 my wife gave me a new nickname....."Couch Potato Master."
The First Reviews
After reading and watching horrible reviews of Spideman 3, I
decided to make my FIRST REVIEW! Truth be told... it was my wife's idea. After finishing my review for Spiderman 3, I planned on solely doing Wii reviews. My first show was called "Wii Reviews" and it was only suppose to last 5 episodes. I essentially did it as a joke for the amusement of my friends and family... similar to what the "AVGN" did with his VHS videos.
After those five episodes, I started a retro series of reviews, with the goal of doing one review each month for a whole year. After a long day at the office, I would come home and fool around with my Retro Reviews, starting with Mighty Morphin Power Rangers for the SNES. After receiving 20,000 views over the Internet I was hooked. Sadly I was diagnosed with a serious mental illness and lost both of my real job (as a teachers aid and a sales supervisor in a department store). Without going into too much detail, I fell into a deep depression and nearly lost my mind! But this was just the beginning of my new journey in life.
After Power Rangers, came CastleVania, Super Mario All Stars, Batman Returns, Duck Tales and many more. By the fall of 2007 I had already done 15 Reviews! The quality of my reviews was improving and soon my passion for videos became all-consuming. This new drive helped me to dig out of my depression. However; what made me gain momentum in the Industry was a Wii fan site called "Wii Live". They wanted me to do Wii games again and liked my 5 Wii Reviews back in the Summer. So I did the Rayman Raving Rabbids Review and after that I started adding my video's on Wii Live. The first official Review that I did for them was Castlevania: Dracula X. What really made me a well liked Reviewer and gave me my growing fan base was "Mario Month" I did 5 Reviews beginning with Super Mario Bros. 3 and ending with Super Mario Galaxy. I ended my first year as a Reviewer with a staggering 40 Reviews. 2008 would be the biggest year of my Reviews with a new company and YouTube trying to shut me down.
In January 9th of 2008 I returned to making Reviews. The Review was mixed with Hate and Love. But mostly Hate. Anyway the Review was Ski or Die, but on the Nes not the great game for the PC. However; my biggest Reviews during the gaming drought was MySims as Birthday present for my Wife 100,000 people have seen that review and Legend Of Zelda OOT, which now 230,000 people have seen. Which compared to AVGN and the Irate Gamer is still chicken fee based on their views. But you know what that I am still pretty happy with what little my success may be. What is so awesome is my Ocarina of Time Review is the most watched, OOT Review on the net. The Legend of Zelda: OOT was my 50th Review. I pulled off 50 Reviews in under One Year! By mid February I had a fan base of 2,200. Even with my success it was not enough to be a YouTube partner and I was declined. But after each month I would get more and more then even more fans. Probably by the grace of God, still however it happened I am more then thankful for all that I have been blessed with.
Near the end of February I do something un heard for a Reviewer. I had my Wife, a girl do a Co Op Review with. Which when I did this it turned the reviewing world on its head. Now up to this point there had been Girl Reviewers, but having a reviewers Wife join him in a Review made a lot of waves. Since then it now is not un common for girl to do a review with a guy. Actually it is very popular, But before we did that it was not the norm.. The very first Co Op Review was Zack & Wiki for the review. That review is one of the only one that highlights most of the game too. Having my Wife join in a Review is met with a lot of encouragement from the fans. Actually my fan's gave her a nickname Kwife, which she continues to use. One of these days she would like to do a review on her own. Its just finding the time to do it. Kwife has even Ultra Neko sending a friendly greeting once in a while.
Once Spring of 2008 rolled around "Wii Live" started to fade out of the picture. Part of the reason is not posting the video's and refusing to either send me games or pay for my services. By the time Summer came I had ceased promoting them completely after the ladder they became the Gamers Cafe. Which still is around although how they managed that i just don't know. Anyway once June started I was Independent once again and we get world renowned fame for my Golden Eye Review and of course "Batman Month" in July to hype up the Dark Knight Movie. Now that month is the most fun I have ever done working on a Reviews project. I have gotten a lot of great feed back from my fan's and the Batman Begin's Review now has 100,000 views in only 7 Months. In no time at all it will be my 2nd most watched Review. Many fan's of said that it is my best work ever and they enjoyed that more then anything else I have done. This is a very proud moment for me and since I am huge Batman fan I am glad that I did Justice to such an awesome Super Hero.
After the success of Batman Month and 5,500 Subscribers under my belt at the end of July, YouTube decided to go after my Video's. They began flagging review after review under the company called IDG COMMUNICATIONS S.A claiming to be a YouTube Partner! I think the reason YT paid close attention to my work, was all the times I tried for being a paid Partner. Then again I have no proof.... Anyway the copyright crap continued throughout July and August of 2008. Over 15 Reviews were claimed for copyright during this time. I fought under the fair use act, but eventually grew fed up with YouTube altogether. At the end of my Shinobi 3 Review, I announced that I would no longer make video's for YT anymore. I was first contacted by somebody over at GT to release my video's on their site, I jumped at the thought of doing this without thinking it through. At the end of August I was contacted by Gottgame, the same people who supported the Irate Gamer. But thinking I GT was going to offer me a contract a ignored Gottgame. I move I wish I hadn't of done.
In September 13th of 2008 after 78 Episodes on YouTube, I began Season 3 of Kwing Reviews on Game Trailers. Like AVGN a trailer for the review was released on YT and the full review was available on GT. Since the time limit wasn't a factor my Reviews were now as long as I wanted. For the first time I was free to be as creative as I wanted too. My reviews were now 15 to 20 minutes. However; some of the Kwing fan base didn't enjoy clicking a link to see the full Review and people stopped subscribing. This move did not last long and shortly after the release of ActRaiser I resumed talks with Gottgame and moved the remainder of Season 3 to their new site. Mega Man 9 was the first review for Gotgame.com and a trailer for the review was released on YT, which I had been doing since the 13th.
However; Gotgame's video player gave thousand's a very bad reputation which is very sad. The video player went through alot of changes and angered a lot of people. My most watched video on their site is "Legacy Of Darkness" run time of 24 minutes! Wow. The last video I did for them officially was My Sims's Kingdom. Although both Kwing Reviews and the Swag Show have become very close friends over this. During the transition to gotgame I lost 1,200 fans. Even today my views suffer because of Gotgame's video neglect. Still Nick Huggett of the Swag Show started a new project of his own and asked me to join in Nov of 2008. I began work for his company called the Renegade Reviewers on Dec 2nd 2008.
By mid December I had grown very weery of the Gotgame site and there empty promises. During this time though I uploaded all my reviews onto Veoh and was made a Pro user. I also added all of my Season 2 and 3 Reviews onto GameVee. Although what angered me the most about Gotgame was the political correctness on their site over the Gay Marriage Jack Black Musical. Even If I am against such Issue's I respect people's opinion, even when they don't respect me. However; No Game site has the business to put that type of articles on a video game media site. That is beyond offensive. So that was the final nail in the coffin for me honestly. Although even though I have been burned by Gotgame, I still wish to make video's for them. But if they wish to have my 2009 video's on their site they need to pay me atleast $50 a review. Because I will not work for free and no longer put my fans through this marry go round of empty promises. So on Dec 12th 2008, I returned to YouTube and brought new full reviews to Youtube. As soon as I returned my fans jumped from 6,500 to 7,300! Although I have been unable to reach the thousand fans I lost in August, but I do have new fans.
When I came back to YouTube I did a bunch of reviews meant for Gotgame. However; I would not have returned to YT had Gottgame not protected me legally as their Reviewer. Dec also marked the 1st time I did a Co Op Review with someone other then my Wife. I teamed up with Nick from the "Swag Show" to do a Review of Sonic Unleashed. Which next to his Review with Irate Gamer I am the 2nd most watched Co Op review on his channel. The Biggest Review for me in 2008 was Chrono Trigger. Although this review has been meet with good and high points. Everyone agrees that it is the longest Chrono Trigger Review ever made and that it is the most professional. Most people complain about the narration and spoilers about Crono's death. Other then that it has received high praise. Before the end of Dec I announced that my 1st DVD will go on sale in the Spring of 2009. Then I took a 2 week vacation in NY and a much needed rest.
January brought a lot of Important things, the 1st Black President, Steelers Win 6th Super Bowl Victory and Kwing Reviews launchers Official Web Site and DVD's! Very soon I will have reached my 100th Review in under 2 yrs. But don't worry my Reviews will continue to get bigger and better as the years go on. As long as I live, so will Kwing Reviews. Anyway the rest of this year is going to be huge and filled with limitless possibilities. I am very blessed to be part of Gottgame and under the same company that houses the "Irate Gamer Neo" Show. Still I wouldn't be anywhere without you my fans. 2009 is still being written and if any company wants to employ my services see my contact information. Well God Bless and Happy gaming.
